Dance Champeta with Dance Choreographer Anyerson Bello
Learn the basic steps of Cartagena’s endemic dance from a professional dancer and choreographer, instantly catching a whiff of Cartagena’s contagious feel-good Caribbean vibes in the process.
The unspoken pre-requisite to any visit to Cartagena is learning the basic steps to Champeta. Get a head start even if the prospects of visiting are still a long way off. Champeta is practically the soundtrack of Cartagena, capturing in sound the vibes that follow you down every colorful Cartagena street. It’s feel-good and we could all use a bit of that right now, no?
Meet Your Instructor: Anyerson Bello
Though he doesn’t mention it in the video below, Anyerson Bello is a local dancer and choreographer more often found taking his craft to the streets of San Francisco (a neighborhood on the fringes of Cartagena) and changing lives in the process. Through dance and his dance project ADCrew, he’s able to reach and connect with local youth otherwise at risk of getting sucked into the violence, drugs, and drinking prevalent in this area of the city. Dance is his passion and you’ll see it written all over his face.
