Costa Rica
I visited Costa Rica in January of 2023, mainly on a mission to learn how to surf. Though surf I did, from Jaco to Uvita, I also discovered firsthand what it means to live by that phrase that so casually slips off the tongue of locals - pura vida. It was the unfortunately timed sinus infection I arrived with that forced me into the slow and steady pace of pura vida, one that even when healed I found myself choosing to stick to. Instead of the jam-packed days full of adventure in rainforests, most of my days were spent moving slowly, being still, and keeping it simple. I’ll forever remember Costa Rica as the place I truly learned that the simple life is the best life.

Headaches and congestion weren't quite the start I had in mind for my Costa Rica adventure, but I'm learning to roll with it - and that I believe is the lesson.
Follow in my Foot Tracks
Each of these posts includes all of the restaurants, hotels, hostels, and things to do I experienced and would recommend to whoever follows in my foot tracks through Costa Rica.

Uvita is the stuff of legends, or so it was for me. This beach town was the one spot consistently recommended by what felt like every traveler I met. Here’s where I ate, drank, slept, and explored in this infamous spot.
Jacó is a surf town with a darker reputation, but after my week surfing its waves, taking its tours, and dining in its restaurants, I say go and follow in a few of my foot tracks.
Montezuma’s easy to love, with coastal trails to follow, interesting eateries, and a thriving community spirit. Here’s where to go, what to eat, and where to rest your head.
A solid 24 hours is all I had in the Nicoya Peninsula surf town of Santa Teresa. Here's how and where I spent my precious time.
The bites, sips, and stays that composed my time in the Costa Rican beach town of Sámara.
The lowdown on where I ate, drank, slept, and wandered while in the steamy jungle town of La Fortuna.
Where I ate, slept, and explored in San Jose, Costa Rica on my most recent trip to the land of “pura vida.”
Getting over my sinus infection, being a beach bum on sands all over the Nicoya Peninsula, and making friends with Capuchin monkeys that seem to make daily appearances in these parts of Costa Rica
