It’s Always Right Here

I’ve long believed we carry all that we need within us. Whatever situation life may throw our way, we can know that we have what we need to meet it. It’s only when we disconnect from ourselves that it can feel like we’re ill-equipped.

In the whirlwind of coming back to the United States and the marathon of travel up and down the east coast that ensued almost as soon as I arrived, I grew a bit disconnected from myself. All of the habits that I know are helpful for me to feel a connection to me - my morning coffee ritual, my meditation, my workout, my journaling - all fell away as I threw myself into the moment and left no anchor points. I kept telling myself that I’d re-connect when I could finally unpack my bags and settle in somewhere for longer than a few days. Or that I’d re-connect when I had a routine or a space that felt like mine again. In other words, I pushed away the idea that I could connect right here, right now. I had convinced myself that I needed the perfect conditions first.

The truth is it’s always right there for you. You are always right there for you. But you have to believe it. Otherwise, it can become a game of “I’ll be happy when…” And there’s no winning that game. In fact, there are only losers.

As I moved through the past two weeks, becoming evermore a ghost of myself as I pushed off the very things that I knew would ground me, I felt what it feels like to choose disconnection. I felt how powerless and out of control it is to live that way, to feel far from myself. Yet all I ever had to do was pause, take a breath, look around, be here, tune in, and forgive myself for having strayed to begin with.

When I stumbled across the scene pictured above just a few days ago, it was a visual reminder for me to seek that place of stillness within - the one that’s always right here. It crossed my path as I was out for a walk in my Dad’s neighborhood. I had decided spontaneously to get some fresh air. It was my first step in re-building the bonds to myself and the habits that I knew would bring me back to me again. This beautiful scene amidst the ivy-cloaked woods is a vision of serenity and peace. The bench, an invitation to sit down and tune in. To be present for but a moment. To see the beauty within and without. It’s always right here.

For me, “right here” is in my heart. It’s where I feel my connection to self. It’s where I hear my Inner Voice, my intuition, my knowing. It’s where I remember who I am and it’s where I shed all that I am not. It’s where I can put things into perspective, clear the mind, and find comfort in the not knowing. No, I don’t need a well-positioned bench in a beautiful trail-side wood to go within, but I did really need that reminder of what awaits when I do.

I’ve recently completed Jess Lively’s Inner Voice Facilitator Training and am officially a certified Inner Voice Facilitator as of a few weeks ago. This work of connecting inward to the part of yourself that knows has been extremely powerful. It’s helped me personally to navigate this unknown next chapter of my life and it’s been truly rewarding to witness the ways it’s helped those I’ve had the pleasure of facilitating so far. If you’ve read this far, I have a little gift for you. I’m opening up 5 FREE 1-hour slots over the course of December to give you a chance to sample what it is to be connected to your own Inner Voice and to hear it’s wisdom loud and clear. If this peaks your interest, claim your slot by choosing a day and time on the calendar here. I am limiting this to just the first 5 people who sign up. If that link above no longer works, it does mean that the slots have been filled. For more information about my Inner Voice offerings, you can check out nomapsorfoottracks.com/inner-voice. I hope to help you tap into your own depths of wisdom - to the very essence of you!
