Sri Lanka’s South Coast is a surfer’s paradise. Surf towns stretch every few miles from Hikkaduwa in the west to Arugam Bay in the east and the waves deliver something for every level. I spent March and April of 2024 following the swell from surf town to surf town. When the California-based surf publication Surfers asked me to write a surfer’s guide to Sri Lanka, it was an easy yes. In it, I break down the best surf spots from west to east and month to month, lacing in tips from local surfers along the way.
