I Did My Own Guided Journaling Session. This is What Happened.

Direction Discernment.jpg

Last night, within minutes of ending the call on Zoom, my power flickered and then went out for hours. Staring back at me on my computer screen in the now dark but sporadically lighting-lit room was the recording of the Direction & Discernment Guided Journaling Session I had only just managed to wrap up before everything went dark. With the power gone and therefore my wifi disconnected, I decided to click play on the recording and do my own session. This is what came through. These were the answers from my own Inner Voice around the theme of direction and discernment.

Question 1: How important is it to have a direction in life? Why?

Answer From My Inner Voice: It doesn’t matter. Your direction comes in retrospect, not forward. It’s in the looking back that you see in what direction you’ve moved. To know your direction is to future see and you can’t. You won’t. Be present. Live from where you are knowing that a direction forms from this moment by moment movement. You are here. Be here. In this now.

Question 2: How can I know for sure when it’s time to adjust my direction in life?

Answer From My Inner Voice: Things will feel tight, like you’re moving between two narrow walls. Constriction. Dis-ease. Like you’ve outgrown an old shirt. It just doesn’t fit in a comfortable way anymore. It’s time to shift when the circumstances no longer fit or feel good.

Question 3: How can I know for sure when I am moving in the right direction?

Answer From My Inner Voice: It flows. There’s ease. Like flying but you’re not the one driving the plane. Like a passenger in the friendly skies. The right path appears as you walk it, step by step, moment by moment. Everything flows and is flowing. Just step in.

Question 4: In what direction is my life currently moving and is this the right direction for me or would you have me adjust course in some way? If yes, how?

Answer From My Inner Voice: No. More fun. More ease. Not enough now. It’s time. Fly. Too much work. Not enough play. Play more. Be you more. This is it. Being you is all that’s needed. Let go of the heavy. Only pick up what feels light and fun. Let this be your guide. Too heavy right now. Too much. Lighten. Free up your time. To play and have fun. Be you.

Question 5: When I feel like I don’t have a direction, what would you have me do or remember?

Answer From My Inner Voice: Stop. Breathe. Close eyes. Trust. Go within. Know I’m here with you. You’re not alone. I’m right here. I’ve been here the whole time. Knowing I’m here is enough. Erase the thoughts. Come back to me, to you. I’m you in you form.

Question 6: Will the next step always appear and how can I recognize it as the right step to take?

Answer From My Inner Voice: Yes. It will shine, be shiny. Glisten almost. It’s the shiny next step. The one that sparkles and thrills. A leap inside. That feeling. Floor drops out and you’re flying. Excitement and nerves. Both is a good sign. It’s the one that makes your heart sing. Tra la la. Undeniably shiny.

Question 7: How can I be sure not to miss the next step when it appears and what happens if I do miss it?

Answer From My Inner Voice: You won’t. You can’t. It’s yours. You take it. The right next step can’t be missed. But presence is key. It can’t be missed because it’s always there and it will be taken by you. When you see it, you take it. But at the speed/pace you’re ready for. Do not fear missing it. You can’t. It’s yours. Your step to take.

Question 8: What does it mean when there is no clear next step in any given moment?

Answer From My Inner Voice: To be still. Trust. Do nothing. Be. It’s all okay. You are where you are meant to be. Settle in to who and where you are. Do nothing. Be. Feel.

Question 9: Right now, what next step would you have me take and in what direction or area of my life?

Answer From My Inner Voice: Love. Relationships. Open to love. To who does not matter. Open is it. Open to love and being loved. Let love in. Receive love. Be loved. As you are. For who you are. Open. Open heart.

Question 10: How can I commit more fully to living this life, my life, right now as it is?

Answer From My Inner Voice: Be where you are and trust that you are supported in all ways, including financially. Accept all of it. Hide from none of it. Accept you. All of you. Be you. Feel. Get in touch with self, emotional world. Compassion for self in all things. Acceptance.

These answers surprised me. This is how I know that they were coming from a place deep within, beyond the mind. And all of them so simple, so succinct, so instantly calming and reassuring. Some answers put my attention in places I consciously would have never known to put it.

When my Inner Voice said no to Question 4, I flinched. But then I listened and I heard exactly what I needed to hear, what had been trying to speak amidst the noise in my day-to-day life of late. In the quiet and clearing of this Guided Journaling Session, I was able to get the message loud and clear.

The answer to Question 9 also took me by surprise. Love and relationships is not an area I would have mentally thought required my full attention right now and because this answer came out of nowhere, from the depths of my very soul, I trust it. I’m listening and I’m choosing to incorporate this wisdom into the life I’m living now. I know it will help put me back on track.

You may be asking yourself how to get these answers from your own Inner Being. The answer is to find silence, to clear away the thoughts of the mind, and to allow the space and the awareness for your Inner Voice to come through. I offer these Guided Journaling Sessions on a monthly basis as a way to hone this skill of hearing from your own Inner Voice. I hope you join the next one. I hope you get as much from it as I so unexpectedly did last night.
