It sits just a short, flat, 10-minute stroll from Boca da Barra beach—the perfect spot where the river meets the ocean and where everyone gathers for sunset—and is within easy walking distance of the village’s best local restaurants.
The pousada itself is designed as a rustic-chic tropical sanctuary named after the Tupi-Guarani word for “house of hospitality.” Each room opens up to a private patio or balcony overlooking the lush garden filled with native plants and birds. Alizées Moreré: A striking hillside retreat where the luxury wooden chalets are built with massive, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, allowing guests to trace the shifting tropical tides right from their beds before dining at the on-site acclaimed French-regional fusion restaurant.
Oxe Hostel: The ultimate budget-friendly gem for social travelers, perched in the upper part of Moreré village, offering sweeping, elevated views of the tropical coastline from a peaceful terrace bar, complete with privacy curtains on beds and a legendary, free fresh-baked vegetarian breakfast every morning.
Getting Around: How to Travel Between Velha Boipeba and Moreré
Because there are no cars on Boipeba, moving between the main village and Moreré is an adventure in itself. You have three main options depending on your budget, luggage, and the tide.
Option 1: The Island "Tractor" (The Most Traditional Way)
The most traditional way to travel between the two villages today is by the local open-air tractor (Jardineira).
How it works: You head to the "Ponto do Trator" terminal just outside the main village of Velha Boipeba (about a 10-15-minute walk).
The Journey: The tractor drives along a rustic inland dirt track through the island's interior. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to get to Moreré.
Cost & Schedule: It costs around R$ 15–20 per person each way and departs at set times throughout the day, primarily in the morning and afternoon. Just keep in mind that they often require a minimum number of passengers (usually 6–8 people) to make the trip, so you may have to wait a little bit for it to fill.
Option 2: The Low-Tide Beach Walk (The Most Scenic Way)
If you are traveling light (backpacks only) and love hiking, you can walk between Velha Boipeba and Moreré along the coast.
The Route: You will walk down to the end of Cueira beach, cross the Oritibe River (either on foot at low tide or via the paddle boat), and continue until you reach Moreré.
The Golden Rule: You must check the local tide charts first. You can only safely cross the Oritibe River at low tide (ideally below 0.3m). At high tide, the current is dangerous and the water is too deep to cross with bags, but there are usually locals around offering to take you across by paddleboat for 5 reais.
Time: The walk takes about 1.5 to 2 hours of casual strolling.
Option 3: Quad Bike / Moto-Taxi (The Fastest Way)
For a quicker, more direct transfer, local operators offer quad bike or motorcycle taxi rides along the interior trails.
How it works: You can find drivers near the main ports or at the ponto do UTV. They can easily strap a standard suitcase or backpack to the front of the quad.
Time & Cost: It takes about 15 minutes and costs a bit more than the tractor at R$ 25-35 for one person and R$ 40-60 for two people, but it operates on your own schedule. If a driver is trying to charge you more than these rates, verify pricing with the other drivers or locals nearby. The price may have changed since I wrote this guide, but there’s also a chance they’re just overcharging you.
Pro-Tip for Packing: No matter which option you choose, remember that Boipeba has sand streets. Ditch the heavy, hard-shell rolling suitcases if you can—a sturdy travel backpack or a lightweight duffel bag will make your life significantly easier here!
