Quick Guide: Best Places to Stay in Itacaré

If you’re short on time, here are the top recommendations for where to stay in Itacaré by category:

The Best Areas to Stay in Itacaré

Although Itacaré is a relatively small town, it offers several distinct atmospheres. So, where you stay in Itacaré deserves a little forethought; some spots place you in the heart of the nightlife, while others offer total forest seclusion. Here is how to choose the right neighborhood for your trip.

Central Itacaré: Praia da Concha & Rua Pituba

Most travelers looking for the best places to stay in Itacaré choose the vibrant hub between Praia da Concha and Rua Pituba. This area is the heartbeat of the town, where the ocean and jungle meets the local social scene.

This part of town is compact and highly walkable. From here, you can stroll to Praia da Concha for a morning swim, walk to the nearby surf breaks or your surf school, or spend the evening exploring the restaurants and live music along Pituba and Passarela da Vila.

Although this is the liveliest part of town, some accommodations are tucked into residential streets just behind Praia da Concha, where the atmosphere feels quieter and more local. Others are truly in the heart of it all on Rua Pituba with a bit of noise by night, so my advice would be to read reviews and decide what matters to you most: being steps from the party or finding a little peace just a few streets away instead.

This area is ideal if you want:

  • Walkability: Easy access to 50+ restaurants and bars.

  • Convenience: Surf schools and tour operators are right at your doorstep.

  • Atmosphere: A mix of social hostels, apartment rentals, and boutique pousadas.

Top Recommendations in Central Itacaré:

The Four Beaches: Staying near Resende, Tiririca, & Ribeira

Just south of the center, a pedestrian-friendly road connects four iconic stretches of sand: Resende, Tiririca, Costa, and Ribeira.

While most travelers visit these beaches during the day, staying here offers a "jungle-luxe" vibe, albeit a mostly rustic one. You’ll wake up to the sound of the Atlantic Forest and be the first one in the water at Praia da Tiririca, the town’s premier surf spot. You’re also closer to the trailhead that leads to more secluded beaches like Siriaco and Prainha.

Best suited for travelers seeking:

  • Immediate Surf Access: Stay steps away from the most consistent waves in Bahia.

  • Quiet Nights: A significantly calmer atmosphere once the day-trippers head back to town.

  • Nature: You are perfectly positioned for coastal hikes and Atlantic Forest trails.

Some notable stays along this stretch include:

Because this coastline sits just beyond the main town center, many visitors choose to stay in central Itacaré and explore these beaches during the day, but if you choose to do the opposite, the walk between town and many of these beaches is no more than 15 to 20 minutes and safe enough to do at night.

Luxury & Seclusion: Staying near Praia de Itacarezinho

For travelers seeking total immersion in nature, the best place to stay in Itacaré is actually located about 20km south of the town center. This area is defined by protected Atlantic Forest, sprawling coconut groves, and the vast, golden sands of Praia de Itacarezinho.

While most of this coastline remains wild and undeveloped, it is home to one of Brazil’s most iconic eco-resorts. Staying here is a trade-off: you swap the walkability and nightlife of Rua Pituba for empty beach and world-class wellness.

The Top Recommendation:

Txai Resort & Spa: This isn't just a hotel; it’s a destination. Built on a former coconut farm, the bungalows are tucked into the hillside with views that make you feel like the only person on the coast. It’s perfect for a honeymoon or a high-end wellness retreat.

Deep Dive: My Firsthand Itacaré Hotel Reviews

I stayed all over town during my multi-week stay in Itacaré, getting a taste of each neighborhood and area. The following represent the specific hostels, pousadas, apartments, and boutique hotels I experienced firsthand and would recommend.

Praiera Pousada & Hostel

Check Prices & Availability

  • Best for: Solo travelers, digital nomads, and budget-conscious couples or families.

  • Vibe: A clean, "chill" recharge spot with a spotless kitchen and a great social terrace.

Located just a short walk from Rua Pituba, Praiera Pousada & Hostel is an immaculate, budget-friendly stay tucked into a more residential part of town. While it offers a break from the main tourist strip, it sits in a lively local neighborhood—I wouldn't call it quiet, as you’ll hear the hum of traffic and the sounds of neighbors—but the trade-off is a stay that feels safe, authentic, and incredibly well-run.

Amenities for the Modern Traveler
The rooms feature private ensuite bathrooms and powerful air-conditioning, which is an absolute must in the Bahian heat. For those working remotely, the WiFi is reliable, and the massive top-floor terrace provides a great outdoor workspace or a peaceful spot to relax in a hammock. The rooms also feature a desk.

The Highlight: The Breakfast
Served on the breezy terrace, the morning meal includes fresh-baked goods, seasonal fruits, and scrambled eggs made to order. It is easily one of the best value-for-money starts to the day you’ll find anywhere in Itacaré.

Why stay here:

  • Pousada-Style Comfort: Perfect if you want a social atmosphere on the terrace but a quiet, clean, and private room to retreat to at night.

  • Work-Friendly: One of the few budget options with both the desk space and connectivity needed for digital nomads.

  • Local Authenticity: You'll experience the "real" Itacaré while remaining just minutes from the beaches and nightlife.

Keep in mind: This is a lively neighborhood. If you are extremely sensitive to the sounds of a local town waking up, bring earplugs or enjoy the early start for a morning surf!

Mas Que Nada Hostel

Check Prices & Availability

  • Best for: Solo travelers, backpackers, and anyone looking for a social "hub."

  • Vibe: High-energy, artsy, and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you arrive alone and leave with a group of friends.

If you are looking for the social heart of the town, Mas Que Nada Hostel is widely considered the best hostel in Itacaré. Located along the bay-facing road that leads to Praia da Concha, it perfectly balances a laid-back atmosphere on the edge of Central Itacaré while remaining just minutes from the town's best bars, restaurants, and sunset points.

An Unmatched Community Feel
The hostel has a distinctly communal soul. When I checked in, I was literally introduced to every single guest in my proximity, then immediately added to a WhatsApp group to make and join plans with other travelers. This inclusive spirit is fueled by an on-site bar that serves a mean caipirinha and an above-and-beyond breakfast that lingers until noon, encouraging everyone to connect at the start and end of each day.

Organic Energy & Local Music
Mas Que Nada hosts regular live music nights every Monday, but unlike typical "party hostels," the vibe here feels more organic and creative. It’s a genuine meeting point for both travelers and locals alike. Whether you’re staying in a dorm or one of their private rooms, the open-air layout makes it incredibly easy to find surf buddies or dinner partners.

Keep in mind: Because it hosts the party at least once a week, it’s not the place for travelers seeking total silence by 9 PM, especially on Mondays. It’s a place to embrace the rhythm of Itacaré.

Why stay here:

  • Instant Community: Between the proactive introductions from staff and the guest WhatsApp group, you will have a social circle within minutes of checking in.

  • The Best Breakfast for Late Risers: A high-quality breakfast that lingers until noon is a rare find and perfect for those who want to sleep in after a night out.

  • Creative Atmosphere: Enjoy regular live music and an organic, artsy vibe that attracts an interesting mix of travelers and locals.

  • Perfect "Concha" Access: Located on the road to Praia da Concha, you are perfectly positioned for sunset views and easy beach days while staying on the pulse of the town.

I also stayed at Em Casa Hostel which was great from a social perspective (laid back, home-like atmosphere that attracts a great group of travelers looking to connect), but the beds in the female dorm were so bad that I just can’t recommend this hostel in full, even though the rest of my experience there was excellent. If you stay, I’d recommend booking the mixed dorm for a better sleep experience. I hear the beds are better in those rooms.

Pousada Burundanga

Check Prices & Availability

  • Best for: Couples, antique lovers, and those seeking a quiet stay close to town.

  • Vibe: A historic, soul-filled home with quirky details and an incredible collection of local handicrafts.

Located in the vicinity of Praia da Concha, Pousada Burundanga feels more like a historic home come to life than a typical hotel. Playful in its decor and quaint in its details, this 11-room pousada quickly became one of my favorite stays in Itacaré. Some might call it outdated, but I personally loved its lived-in charm.

A Home-Away-From-Home Atmosphere
The pool-adjacent patio, the afternoon coffee and tea cart, and the fresh breakfast spread each morning all hit me in a way that made me feel right at home. I found myself wishing I had a full week here rather than just two nights. The garden paths between buildings are filled with ornaments and antiques that occupy every end table, beam, and bench.

Each of the 11 rooms exudes the same charm as the quirky common spaces. Slatted doors lead to a private terrace or balcony, while Bahian handicrafts—from fishtail-shaped lamps to handcrafted wall art—decorate every corner. Even the small details, like coffee cups swinging on hooks by the espresso machine in your room, add to the personality of the space.

Details Worth Noticing
Whether you’re at the breakfast table or a poolside daybed, your eyes are meant to wander. Look for the intricate woodwork over the doorframes, the handcrafted doves perched on the chandelier, and the antique cash register at reception, for example. But the list goes on and on.

And let me save you from a fright—the rattlesnake curled up on the end table by the pool is not real, nor is the one spiraling up the palm tree near the stairs. If only someone had given me the same kindness… ;)

Why stay here:

  • A "Lived-In" Historic Vibe: Perfect for those who prefer the soul and character of a historic home over the sterile feel of a modern hotel.

  • The Best of Both Worlds: Enjoy a silent, garden-like sanctuary for quiet mornings while staying just a short, safe walk from the restaurants of Central Itacaré.

  • Handcrafted Details: Ideal for antique lovers who appreciate seeing local Bahian handicrafts, woodwork, and quirky ornaments in every corner.

  • Exceptional Hospitality: Experience a slower pace of life with a multi-course breakfast spread and a charming afternoon coffee and tea cart by the pool.

Vila Engawa Flats

Check Prices & Availability

  • Best for: Digital nomads, small families, and travelers wanting a "home away from home" with a kitchen.

  • Vibe: Modern, serene, and private—an oasis backed by the forest.

Run by an Italian couple and tucked into my favorite part of town—Praia da Concha (the same neighborhood as Pousada Burundanga)—Vila Engawa Flats are a fantastic budget option for a more complete, self-catered stay in Itacaré.

Space to Live and Work
These aren't just rooms; they are two-story lofts that sleep up to three people. You’ll have your own fully-equipped kitchen (oven, moka pot, and all) and a private patio with an outdoor dining table and a hammock swinging in the breeze. While the host has lived in Itacaré for over a decade, the six apartments are only a couple of years old and feel truly serene. The one I stayed in was backed up to the forest on two sides and felt like my own little oasis in a town that’s always "on."

A Local Experience
If you’re looking for a home-away-from-home vibe in a spot surrounded by forest—with a friendly, English-speaking host who lives right upstairs—this might be your best place to stay in Itacaré.

Why stay here:

  • A Break from Hotels: Perfect if you want to stop feeling like a "tourist" and start feeling like a local.

  • Full Amenities: Total privacy including a kitchen, private patio, and spacious loft.

  • Quiet Location: Located in the best part of Itacaré for peace and quiet, without losing proximity to the restaurants, beaches, and nightlife.

  • Multilingual Hospitality: Giulio is an incredibly friendly host who speaks English, Portuguese, and Italian.

Another apartment I stayed at was called Flats Vasconcelos on Rue Pituba. Though I’m not more loudly featuring it due to its slight quirks, it is a good option if your budget is closer to USD$30 per night and you want to be right in the heart of it all. It’s a bit shabby, but comfortable enough, has a full kitchen, multiple beds if you’re a larger group, and a (very loud!) air conditioner in the bedroom.

Chocolate Hotel

Check Prices & Availability

  • Best for: Luxury seekers wanting an immersive cultural connection to Bahia.

  • Vibe: Indulgent and chocolate-themed, yet grounded in authentic local experiences.

Located just a 15-minute walk from the main town center, the Chocolate Hotel is a standout choice for those looking for a unique stay. As the name suggests, this boutique hotel is a tribute to the Cocoa Coast, with decor and experiences that center around the region's famous cacao culture.

A View from Above
Perched on a hill overlooking the town, the hotel offers some of the best views in Itacaré. You can see the rooftops of the town meeting the shimmering bay and coastline and hear the muted sounds of the restaurants and shops of Rua Pituba. The elevation provides a sense of rest and perspective that you don’t always get in the middle of town.

The Ultimate Cacao Immersion
Save for sleeping at a traditional fazenda, there is no more immersive way to plug into southern Bahia’s cacao culture. You’ll find cacao pods literally growing from the trees on the hotel grounds, while the guest experience is thoughtfully cacao-laced from start to finish:

  • Check-in: A chocolate tasting to welcome you and a box of truffles waiting for you in your room

  • Dining: Cacao-themed menus and cocktails at the rooftop restaurant, Nibs and poolside cocktail bar

  • Breakfast: Hot cocoa and specialized chocolate treats served alongside your avocado toast and fresh fruit plate

  • Experiences: The staff is passionate about the origin of every bite of chocolate you taste, and they offer curated experiences to visit local cacao farms in the Itacaré area.

  • Treatments: I scheduled a cacao detox massage during my stay, featuring a cacao nib exfoliation and a chocolate-based mask that left my skin glowing. (Pro tip: ask for Aiana Eloy if you follow my lead!)

Luxury Without Pretense
Beyond the theme, the grounds are incredibly indulgent. Lush, flower-scented trails connect the reception to a beautiful swimming pool and a beach volleyball court. Every room features a private balcony and "cushy" interiors that feel upscale without being out-of-touch.

Why stay here:

  • Cultural Experience: Perfect for travelers who want to immerse themselves in the specific history and flavors of the Cocoa Coast.

  • Stunning Vistas: The hilltop location provides a unique perspective of Itacaré and the surrounding forest, ocean, and river.

  • Prime Proximity: You are just 15 minutes walk away from the best dining and nightlife, yet tucked away enough for a quiet night's sleep.

Txai Resort & Spa

Check Prices & Availability

  • Best for: Luxury travelers, honeymoons, and nature-focused retreats.

  • Vibe: Sophisticated eco-luxury that prioritizes environmental protection and restorative peace.

Txai Resort is no ordinary five-star resort. While it holds prestigious titles—including being Brazil’s first Relais & Châteaux member and a recent Michelin Key recipient—it remains a pioneer in ecotourism. Located a 30-minute drive from the center of Itacaré, this stay is worth the splurge as much for its world-class luxury as for its contact with the thriving Atlantic Forest.

A Pioneer in Sustainability
When Txai opened over 25 years ago, it set the blueprint for sustainable luxury in Brazil. The resort’s 38 rustic-chic bungalows are spread across just 6% of the 92-hectare property, which sits within the Itacaré-Serra Grande Environmental Protection Area. Guests stay directly in front of the pristine Itacarezinho Beach, where resident biologists monitor sea turtle nesting sites through the Txaitaruga Project and lead guided nature hikes through the coastal ecosystem.

World-Class Amenities
Despite its rustic-chic aesthetic, the amenities are purely indulgent. The resort features five swimming pools, two high-end restaurants, and beachfront cabanas with full service. The hilltop spa is a destination in itself, offering a heated infinity pool, a wet and dry sauna, and a menu of treatments in rooms that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. You’ll also find a fully equipped fitness center and tennis courts tucked into the greenery.

Why stay here:

  • Spectacular Setting: Experience the exact point where the dense Atlantic Forest meets a protected, nearly empty stretch of coastline.

  • Exclusive Privacy: Private bungalows are designed with local materials like piassava and dendê palm to blend seamlessly into the landscape.

  • Restorative Atmosphere: A significantly quieter, more "slow-paced" experience than central Itacaré, focused on wellness and nature.

  • Eco-Education: Take advantage of the resident biologists and experiences centered around protecting the surrounding ecosystem.

  • Prime Trail Access: While feeling completely removed from the world, you are perfectly positioned at the trailhead for the "Four Beaches" hike that connects Praia Itacarezinho with Praia Engenhoca.

How Many Days Should You Spend in Itacaré?

Most travelers spend three to four days in Itacaré, which allows enough time to:

  • hike the coastal trail to Prainha or the four beaches trail

  • surf or take a lesson at Tiririca or Engenhoca Beach

  • visit a nearby waterfall, go horseback riding, or visit a cacao farm

  • experience the town’s live music, dance culture, street parties, and forro workshops

But if you can stay longer, I highly recommend you do!
